After many kind comments about the old Buffalo Niagara Sailing Blog, and being told of disappointment that it was no longer available, a new and different version of that communication forum is going to start.
The original purpose of Buffalo Niagara Sailing was to try and get local clubs and classes to work together for the purpose of calendar coordination with the goal of setting a strategy and agenda that would provide for and promote the growth of yacht racing in the Buffalo region. That notion failed for alot of reasons – none of which matter to me any longer.
While I previously promoted clubs and/or elements of clubs and classes without fully believing in what I was saying, but thinking it was always better to say something nice rather than something controversial, I’ll now take a different tack and say only what I think and believe in. If there are those who disagree with me, well, so be it. It won’t be the first time I’ve been tacking in the opposite direction of the fleet – nor will my viewpoints be necessary wrong, especially in the long run. I was given a huge amount of grief when I lived in Newport Beach, CA and promoted the use of leeward gates in the late ’80s, and then led the way to the creation of a list of Group 2 & 3 sailors, both of those initiatives which seem to have helped the sport on an international basis.
So, if some of the small minded locals who are only interested in protecting their little narrowed minded view of the status quo locally disagree with what I have to say, then please show me exactly what you have done of significance to make the sport better for more people.
